ASTM A 283M Grade C is the standard low-to-intermediate tensile-strength structural carbon steel plate used for fabricating atmospheric storage tanks, pressure vessels, and structural applications where mild-to-moderate strength requirements apply. Grade C (yield ≥ 205 MPa, tensile 380–515 MPa) sits below the higher-strength A 516 grades but offers excellent weldability and formability — ideal for large-format plate rolling and tank shell welding.
Crude oil storage tanks require plates in multiple thicknesses across the shell rings: thicker plates at the lower shell courses (higher hydrostatic head) and thinner plates toward the top. This supply covered four thickness variants (8, 10, 12, 14 mm) in large-format plates (10 m × 2–2.5 m) to minimize weld seams and fabrication labor.
