Sour natural gas transmission — high-pressure gathering or trunk line service.
API 5L X70Q PSL2 at OD 168.28 mm × WT 18.26 mm (SCH 160) is a demanding combination: the X70 grade is selected for its 485 MPa (70.3 ksi) minimum yield to control wall thickness in high-pressure service, and the SCH 160 wall is specified to handle internal pressures well above standard schedule ratings.
The sour-service designation means this pipe was manufactured and tested under API 5L Annex H requirements — restricting chemistry (reduced carbon equivalent, controlled sulfur), requiring HIC (hydrogen-induced cracking) testing per NACE TM0284, and mandating Charpy V-notch impact testing at the project's minimum design temperature. Without Annex H compliance, standard X70Q pipe may crack under wet H₂S exposure even at moderate pressure.
3LPE external coating protects the pipe through direct-burial installation in the African field environment. ZC Steel Pipe supplies X70 and X80 PSL2 sour-service line pipe for African gas pipeline projects, with MTC documentation per EN 10204 3.1 and access to third-party 3.2 inspection from SGS, Bureau Veritas, or equivalent.
